Every year on 28th July, World Nature Conservation Day is observed all over the world with the objective of increasing awareness about and protecting the natural resources that Planet Earth is bestowed with. Nature provides us with various indispensable services which has made possible human existence on the planet.
The rapid development is putting pressure on the natural resources; air, water, forests, wildlife, flora, fauna, fossil fuels, minerals and the likes. Excessive and unsustainable use of these resources is causing degradation of nature. Through nature conservation we need to wisely manage and utilize our natural resources. This day makes us realize that a healthy environment is the foundation for a stable and productive society and to ensure the well-being of present and future generations, and we all must participate to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage our natural resources.
Conservation of nature holds great significance for avoiding mass extinctions in the near future. Trees and plants consume carbon, which has increased the planet’s temperature, increased storms and sea level rises and freshwater glacier melting that threatens lives. Glaciers are connected to rivers and lakes on which we depend for drinking water. Birds, bees and other pollinators are important for the plants we need to eat to stay healthy nutritionally. Nature conservation ought to respect the natural environment and its intrinsic wilderness.

We have been exploiting the limited natural resources, which otherwise takes millions of years to get replenished. We have become a threat to natural resources as the human interference in natural resources is rising day after day. So, to conserve the nature, some of the steps are mentioned hereunder, but the list is endless:
- Increasing the use of alternative or renewable energy
- Planting more trees to maintain the ecosystem and prevent soil erosion
- Using water judiciously
- Growing vegetation in catchment area
- Reducing the dependence on fossil-fuels
- Using the recyclable and biodegradable products
- Ensuring the recycling of wastes
- Installing rainwater harvesting system ……..
