National-level Essay Writing Competition 2021 | Refer Guidelines*

Bharat is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, with the objective of commemorating seventy five years of progressive Bharat and the glorious history of her people, culture and achievements.

As a part of this grand festival, Vigyan Setu Foundation announces a National-level Essay Writing Competition 2021 on the occasion of National Mathematics Day.


Since ancient times, Bharat has been the home for various scholars who made significant contributions to mathematics including Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Mahavira, Bhaskara II and the likes. Srinivasa Ramanujan, since his childhood, demonstrated signs of unfolding genius, and his contributions regarding fractions, infinite series, number theory, mathematical analysis and so on, set an example in mathematics.

National Mathematics Day is observed on 22 December, every year, to mark the birth anniversary of legendary mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan and his contribution in the field of mathematics. Celebration of National Mathematics Day aims at raising awareness among people about the importance of mathematics in daily life. Several initiatives are being taken to motivate, enthuse, and inculcate a positive attitude towards learning mathematics, especially among the younger generation of the country.


To realize this objective, Vigyan Setu Foundation through the proposed Essay Writing Competition, invites the young minds to explore any ONE mathematician from the land of Bharat and put down their achievements and contributions made to the world of mathematics, in the form of an essay.

Guidelines for National-level Essay Writing Competition 2021

Topic: Mathematician who gave new dimension to Mathematics

            गणितज्ञ जिन्होंने गणित को नया आयाम दिया

Participants are expected to pick up only ONE mathematician from any of the periods (Vedic, classical, medieval or modern) and give his / her bio-sketch in brief and elaborate upon his / her accomplishments and contributions to the world of Mathematics.

Groups: There are TWO groups for participation –

      Group A: School-going students (Std X, XI or XII)

      Group B: College-going students (UG or PG)

Word limit: The essay should be within 750 words

Language: The essay can be written either in English or Hindi language

Submission:  Along with your personal details (name, school/college, complete postal address, standard studying in, and contact number), paste the typewritten essay in the form, and submit

Last date for submitting the essay: 05 December 2021 *Extended to 10 December 2021

Results: Results will be declared on the National Mathematics Day, on Vigyan Setu Foundation website and communicated personally to all the winners through e-mail

Prizes: Best essays in English and Hindi languages, one each from the Groups A and B will be awarded

All participants will receive the e-Certificate of Participation through e-mail

!! REMEMBER !!

  1. If the word limit exceeds, then the essay will not be considered
  2. All essays are to be submitted through the specified form ONLY; entries submitted through any other media will not be considered
  3. ONLY the first entry will be accepted from an individual; rest of his/her entries would not be considered
  4. The essay MUST be original; written by the participant himself /herself
  5. Any form of plagiarism or violation of any provision of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957 found would result in disqualification
  6. The participant will be solely responsible if his/her essay is found to be plagiarised
  7. The decision of the evaluation team will be final and binding to all the participants
